How to Simulate a Physical Classroom in a Virtual Learning Space

How can we simulate a physical classroom in a virtual learning space? Neil Patrick Del Gallego, De La Salle University Assistant Professor will talk about “Leveraging Virtual Reality for Conducting Online Classes” on Day 3 of SOFTCON 2020.

This session discusses the benefits of using virtual reality (VR) environments for enhancing the learning experience of students. Various studies show that VR can be used to provide experiential learning and to enhance engagement.

A case study conducted in De La Salle University, regarding the use of a VR platform for conducting classes, will be discussed.Features in commercial VR platforms and how these features can be maximized to create interactive learning sessions will be shared in this session.

Neil is an Assistant Professor at De La Salle University. Before working at DLSU, Neil has been in the PH gaming industry for five years at Anino Games Inc. He was also part of a team that developed games for the Cubes franchise of Playlab Inc.

Aside from his game development experience, he has published research works in image processing, computer vision, augmented reality, and data mining.

He is among the faculty members of DLSU, College of Computer Studies, actively building the Interactive Entertainment degree program, partnered with Ubisoft Philippines. He is also the lab head of Graphics, Animation, Multimedia, and Entertainment (GAME) lab at DLSU CCS.
